There are two main reasons why I wanted to feature Su Zie and Kendrick’s wedding celebration for our October journal page. The first is because they were great fun to work with. When they decided to go with a travel theme, they really went with a travel theme. From having a captain and flight attendants lead the wedding ceremony to the passport programs and boarding pass place cards, everything connected the celebration with the couple’s love of travel. The second reason is they are, hands down, the longest clients we’ve worked with on any event! After 7 years of dating, Su Zie and Kendrick were legally married in San Francisco back in 2015. Because of their work/schooling schedules, they decided to wait until 2020 to have the big celebration. On December 31, 2018, they signed the contract with us to work together on their 2020 event. Little did any of us know at the time that they were going to have to wait just a little longer … 2020 and COVID came along so the event was postponed a year. 2021 and COVID was still an issue so, once again, the wedding date was pushed to October 2022. Over the nearly 4 years, Su Zie and I spoke on the phone many, many times, often not even touching on wedding details. We joked that, after all the time that had passed, both of us had to keep referencing notes to remember what we had planned. It took 7 years to see the event come to fruition but, in October 2022, the day finally arrived and the wedding went off brilliantly.
